Great Hip Hop outta Colorado? Hell yeah!
Everybodys always asking me about the local scene here in Colorado, whether its a Record label asking about some new blood, a local rapper trying to scope out the competition, or just a fan of Hip Hop trying to see whats going on in Colorado. Heres some of the Hip Hop Ive discovered over the years here in CO, and a few of them are good friends of mine but will tell ya Im very honest about my opinions about their music so dont care about bias ;)
If you popped in a Dent mixtape and just played it not knowing what it was, you wouldnt know the difference between it, and any classic hip hop mixtape from the early 90;s. Dent hooks up REAL CLASSIC Hip Hop. Ya boy has just a natural flow that kills the microphone, and his choice in production is perfect for what he does. Take a listen to his joint "Sunflowers" on his Myspace and theres no denying thats real hip hop:
Representing Colorado Springs, ya boy Distrakt been on the grind for a minute, and has one of the most original flows Ive heard and while Ive only met him on a few occasions he's always been a real people, and is distinct in that he also produces, he produced his whole debut feature length album Distraktions.
Infinite Mindz holds the distintion of having made one of my favorite tracks out of the Mile High City with another Local legend in the Colorado scene in Spellbinder with "Just Wait" I remember DJ Chonz playing this for our Local Love spotlight and I was like "Man, thats a freakin classic!" Not to say thats the only track I like, their joint "We Live It" is a great head nodder and they keep it with a consistent hip hop sound as well.
Tre may not have been in the Hip Hop game as long as some of these other cats, but I got mad respect for this dudes hustle and grind. I remember a few years back constantly getting emails and messages about his new music and always respected what he was doing. He's recently been stepping his game up teaming up with one of the hottest up and coming producers in the game Fingazz (produced Lil Robs "Summer Nights" and Down "Lean Like a Cholo) for his new single "Cross that Line" Peep it out on his myspace:
